Combination Feeding Safety and Strategies

Feeding babies can be confusing, and the recent formula recalls have brought the spotlight to the importance of safety protocols around infant feeding. This month, we will discuss the ways you can minimize risks and maximize safety through handling methods of pumped milk and formula. Topic coverage includes time and temperature safety (i.e. how long is pumped milk good for in the fridge? can I mix more than one formula bottle in advance? and more) as well as formula mixing safety and exploration of community milk sharing. If you are supplementing or combination feeding any amount of pumped milk or formula, please join this class to learn best practices for infant safety!

Open Arms experienced Lactation Support Peer Counselors provide no cost, community-based lactation support to families. They prepare them for their feeding journey by providing education during pregnancy. Once the baby is born the Lactation Support Peer Counselors help initiate breast/chestfeeding within the first 24 hours of life and conduct check-ins every day for the first week, and frequently for the first six weeks. Lactation support continues throughout the first year.
