Community-Based Outreach Doula Training

April 18, 2022 – June 27, 2022

Mondays & Wednesdays 4-6 PM

In this training you will gain:

  • Knowledge of pregnancy
  • Skills to support a pregnant person in preparing for birth
  • Knowledge of labor and delivery practices
  • Practice providing emotional, physical, and informational support during birth
  • Preparation for providing support to a family after birth, including lactation support
  • Hands-on observation and experience at hospitals and community service providers

Expectations:

  • Participants are expected to attend and actively participate in all training sessions
  • This training requires 4 hours of virtual class time and 2 hours of independent work per week for 10 weeks

Open Arms Perinatal Services is the leading non-profit providing doula services specifically for pregnant and parenting families in Washington State who are facing poverty. The are focused on strong community-based support for families through pregnancy, birth, and into early childhood. They offer support in 17 languages, and serve over 300 families each year. Open Arms carefully pair clients with trained doulas who are a cultural and/or language match whenever possible. They have served over 3,000 clients and conducted over 22,000 home visits to help improve maternal and infant health, as well as build healthy foundations for early learning.
