Full Circle Doula Training

Open Arms Perinatal Services is very excited to partner with Shafia Monroe Consulting (SMC). Together we are offering the SMC Full Circle Doula training to our community in the King and Pierce County communities. This will be a virtual 4-week training, free of charge for people who identify as Black/African-American interested in working as a birth and postpartum doula serving the Black/African-American community. Upon completing this course, you will be dual certified as a labor and postpartum doula, and train in the legacy of the 20th Century African-American midwife, who exemplified holistic care.

Open Arms recognizes that the earliest experiences impact child development and early parenting, we work with families to give our next generation the best beginning. Social justice and racial equity permeate all that we do. We work in true partnership with the communities we serve, listening to their hopes and dreams for pregnant people, babies, and new parents, and providing resources to help transform those dreams into reality.

Ninety percent of the world’s wealthiest countries surpass the United States on measures of maternal and child health and well-being. In King County today, American Indian Alaska Native and Black infants are twice to four times more likely to die within the first 28 days of life than white infants. Current research supports that having a doula improves birth outcomes. Open Arms believes in the added benefit of culturally congruent care.
